When John Sieger met Phil Lee in Nashville, it was bromance at first sight. Phil was doing a gig with his latest band, The Sly Dogs. It sounded so instantly right that Sieger had to extricate himself from a backstage schmooze and prostrate himself at the tiny feet of the master. Phil had something and it was completely his own.

Soon they were doing the occasional gig together and writing a song or two. One of those creations has just appeared on former Persuasions lead singer Jerry Lawson’s first solo record. It’s called I Hope Love Always Knows Your name. It represents some kind of pinnacle for these two — Lawson is a great soul singer, considered by some critics to be the natural heir to Sam Cooke.

What these two boys will be doing at Fusion is swapping songs, Nashville style, occasionally interrupted by insults. All of this in good humor. Neither will let you down and a rare evening of camaraderie and skillfully honed tunes sounds like a pretty good way to kick off summer by the harbor.
